Goodyear Unveils Aero Tires for Flying Cars of the Future
Sensing an alteration from conventional automobiles to flying cars, a tiremaker has transpired with a tire that doubles as a propeller. The tire produced by Goodyear is schemed to support the weight of a vehicle while driving and then tilt horizontally so it’s spinning bladed spokes can function as tiltrotor to provide lift and forward thrust for flying.
Introduced by the company at the Geneva Motor Show, the tire is currently not a reality yet. Declared as a “concept tire”, the company wants to provoke a debate on tires and transport technologies for a new mobility ecosystem.
Goodyear Aero is circular like conventional tires and rotates around a hub. But it is nonpneumatic and the integrated wheel it has wrapped around is made of fanlike flexible spokes unlike the rigid metal like conventional wheels.
The Aero is not company’s first revolutionary tire design. Lately, Goodyear has developed concepts for an electricity-generating tire and a spherical tire capable of rolling in all directions.
