Governments Help Restart Auto Production in Wuhan City
Shanghai, Wuhan, where the COVID-19 pandemic began, ended its 76-day blockade on Wednesday, April 8. The next day, a train carrying 216 Chevrolet Equinox crossovers manufactured by the local General Motors plant left the city for the Central Asian country, through Uzbekistan, according to the Wuhan government website. GM resumed production in the Wuhan area in late March. Chinese automakers and other global manufacturers had restarted local production in mid-March, a month after the extended Chinese New Year holiday, thanks to unremitting efforts by the local government to control the breakout of coronavirus and lift up strict lockdown restrictions.
