69,000 Chevy Bolt EV Recall by General Motors Due to Risk of Battery Fire
General Motors said Friday it was issuing a new recall for about 69,000 Chevrolet Bolt electric vehicles worldwide for fire hazards following reports of two battery fires. For the November 2020 recall, GM dealers installed diagnostic software and reduced the battery's state of charge to 90%. The risk of fire increases when the battery is fully charged or very close to its maximum capacity. The automaker has also instructed owners to recharge their vehicles after each use and to avoid draining the battery below the remaining 70 miles of range, if possible, to reduce the risk of fire.
