EV Vehicles Overtake Diesel Cars in Europe 2021
Electric vehicles, including hybrids and plug-in hybrids, are sold more than diesel-powered vehicles in Europe. Now the Financial Times reports that in December 2021, all-electric vehicles with a diesel engine are being sold in Europe for the first time in 18 different European countries. New data shows that car buyers bought 176,000 new electric vehicles in Western Europe, compared to 160,000 diesel vehicles last month. This figure means that electric vehicles control 20 percent of the market share of all vehicles. While this may seem insignificant to people in the US, diesel remains a popular choice for drivers in Europe due to fuel subsidies. In Europe, owners of diesel vehicles pay lower taxes on fuel than gasoline.
