Government of Zimbabwe is keeping its decision firmly and not seems to be in a mode of lifting the ban on used cars import. Over five years old cars cannot be imported to Zimbabwe. By December 31,2015,  all the Left hand drive cars will be taken off. Some of the used cars importers particularly from Japan are trying to beat the deadline by congesting the Beitbrisge Border Post.

One of the spokespersons of Zimbabwe’s Transport Operators Association said that it was a rising legal action against the decision of Zimbabwe’s government. Also argued that the road traffic Act 13:11, section 6 of third schedule has permitted the LHD vehicles in Zimbabwe.

Patson Mbiriri the Secretary of Transport, Communications and Infrastructural Development said that the Road Traffic Act’s Statutory Instrument 154 will be active in November. Mbiriri also stated that there is no truth in the rumors that are floating of negative impact on income inflow. He added that the LHD vehicles are the cause of most road accidents and if we allow the importation of these vehicles it will be tantamount to enhancing road accident and carnage.
