Thousands Out of Work as Toyota Shuts Down Altona Plant
Toyota had announced its departure from Australian manufacturing in 2014. Automaker claimed that it will not make cars in Melbourne due to high costs on manufacturing, low economies of scale, and “unfavorable dollar”.
Union estimates that 6000 Victorians will lose their jobs after Toyota’s decision of ceasing car production in Australia.
