Toyota to Launch Talking Vehicles by 2021

Toyota says it will start equipping the vehicles with technology to talk with other vehicles. Toyota looks to push safety communications forward by adopting this measure. It says that most of its U.S. models should have the feature by the mid-2020s.

The communicative vehicles can warn each other of accidents, potholes, accidents, heavy traffic, bad weather, or other road hazards that can get in the way of a vehicle.

Toyota has already equipped many vehicles in Japan with this technology. It has been selling DSRC-equipped vehicles there since 2015.
