Hyundai offers the World's First Mass-Production Fuel Cell Trucks to Customers in Switzerland
Since most of the world's automakers are actively developing electric cars, the South Korean automaker Hyundai Motor Company remains focused on developing commercial fuel cell trucks and battery-powered passenger cars. Hyundai says Xcient is the world's first heavy-duty fuel cell electric truck. The Xcient truck is powered by a 190 kW hydrogen fuel cell system with two sets of 95 kW fuel cells. Seven large hydrogen tanks provide a combined storage capacity of approximately 70 lbs (32.09 kg) of hydrogen. Xcient Fuel Cell has a pay-per-charge range of about 400 kilometers, developed to meet the needs of commercial customers and hydrogen filling stations available in Switzerland. Hydrogen refueling takes approximately 8-20 minutes, which is much faster than it takes to fully charge an electric truck battery.
