The UK Raises Its Target to Ban Sales of New Gas-Powered Cars by 2030
California is not alone in planning to ban gas-powered vehicles to reduce emissions and help slow global warming. Countries around the world have similar plans, including the United Kingdom. Boris Johnson originally announced plans to stop selling gasoline and diesel cars in the country by 2040. In February, Britain raised its five-year deadline to 2035. Now, Johnson has raised the deadline, again, by another five years. This means that the sale of new gas-powered cars will be banned in the UK by 2030. Hybrid cars will be banned by 2035.
