Subaru restarts Japan Plant after Twelve-Day Shutdown

The Subaru has recommenced the production on its only plant in Japan after correcting a defect in the steering wheel that caused a nearly two-week shutdown.

The Japanese automaker says the defect could cause affected vehicles to suddenly lose power steering. The company said Monday that it had secured a remedy for the problem and confirmed its safety.

Subaru has advises the car owners to contact their nearest Subaru dealer and have the vehicle checked if they experience malfunctioning power steering.

The car maker says that the defective parts were only installed on Japanese domestic cars and the models exported to the U.S. and other markets were not affected by the issue. The Gunma factory has resumed the work on the repairing of the possibly defective vehicles and has also recommenced production of other non-affected models.
